The certification program taught at Donovan's Hobby and Scuba Center is the SCUBA SCHOOLS INTERNATIONAL (SSI ) OPEN WATER SCUBA DIVING program.

The core of the class revolves around our new SSI home study program. This program allows you to register well in advance of the class. At registration you will receive your student kit with all of the class study materials, so you can pre-study for class. SSI has developed an excellent video teaching program that is backed up with an all new manual and workbook. The result is an extremely easy and fun way for you to study and prepare for SCUBA class at your own pace, in the comfort of your home.

Scuba classes are taught in two weekends. The first weekend PART ONE consists of two swimming pool and three theory class sessions. The second weekend is practical application in the open water where you will do five open water dives.

Here are some options for doing PART TWO of your OPEN WATER DIVES. Local "Open Water Training dives" will be completed at Lake Okoboji in Iowa or Lake Francis Case, Pickstown SD. Open water weekends are offered each month May through September. Another option is to finish your training dives on one of our warm water trips. Or we can help plan a special trip for you through our SCUBA TRAVEL DEPARTMENT. Either way you will have a perfect getaway and have fabulous diving. You can also complete your training through SSl's referral program at any dive destination in the world.

Your SSI OPEN WATER SCUBA CLASS is just the beginning of your diving fun. After certification you will be able to advance your diving skills through SSI's continuing education program SPECIALTY CLASSES. These classes will allow you to improve diving skills in areas of special interest to you, such as UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY, WRECK DIVING, BOAT DIVING, SEARCH & RECOVERY, NIGHT DIVING, SPEARFISHING, DEEP DIVING, DIVER STRESS AND RESCUE.

During the year, Donovan's have many local dive trips and outings planned. A great opportunity to participate and experience scuba diving at its best. You won't believe what the underwater world has to offer!
